Refined Simulation Study on the Effect of Scour Environments on Local Scour of Tandem Bridge Piers

Ice cover is a natural phenomenon unique to rivers in cold regions, and its existence one of the reasons for collapse structural foundations bridge piers across rivers. In order understand influence different scouring environments on hydrodynamics sand bed morphology local scour holes around pier foundations, this paper simulates dynamic evolution process tandem combination under open-flow ice-cover environments, based turbulence model using Reynolds-averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) method sediment transport considering slope effect, respectively. This study also takes vortex flow shear stress distribution at characteristic moments perimeter section as penetration point analyze effect law environment relative time scale hole, makes detailed comparison with results indoor flume test. The show that: conditions, initiation doubly inhibited hydrodynamic forces hole are weakened; caused by ice contributes total submerged within coverage area, which significantly increases depth range hole; and, although interaction turbulent eddies side main mechanism generated pier, two have strong correlation. study, obtained accurately quantifying amount basis reasonable estimation maximum depth, can provide reference riverbed structures areas essential avoid damage reduce economic loss traffic..
